Distinctive Educational Model Based on Experiential Learning

UWC Costa Rica is guided by a profound understanding that achieving genuine sustainability requires a fundamental shift in how we perceive the world. We firmly believe that education serves as the cornerstone for this transformative endeavor—a means to foster forward-thinking perspectives and cultivate a legacy of wisdom, knowledge-sharing, and collective memory. Our steadfast commitment is to ensure universal access to information and immersive experiential learning across diverse contexts and environments, including the nurturing embrace of nature.

We are dedicated to pioneering new educational and cultural paradigms to pursue a sustainable future. This ambitious undertaking involves the development of curricula and initiatives deeply rooted in a culture of sustainability, paving the way for the emergence of alternative currents of thought that will shape our collective trajectory toward a more harmonious and balanced existence.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

UWC Costa Rica follows the IB's Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum, made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay (EE). We are the only UWC College in the movement that offers the full IBDP in Spanish, and students can opt in to achieve a bilingual diploma.

Future Pathways & University Counseling

One-on-one counseling is provided for all students to find the right path in their future beyond UWC Costa Rica. Whether applying for a university, taking a gap year experience, or entering the workforce, we ensure the whole community gets the right tools to make an informed and inspired decision.

We accompany students on their application journey to universities all across the globe, finding the best fit for each student and helping them apply for partial and full scholarships. We also work with the Davis Foundation, bringing financial support for UWC students in more than 100 universities across the United States.

Experiential Fridays

In conjunction with the Co-Curricular and Residential Life programs and following our experiential learning model, Experiential Fridays invite our community to study outside the classrooms in one-day educational field trips and activities regarding their IB subjects across the different provinces of Costa Rica.
