UWC Costa Rica, our students are known for their commitment to positive change, and this week, they proved it once again. The annual "Bald for a Cause" event brought together around 60 students and staff members who bravely shaved their heads and donated their hair to support individuals battling cancer.
A Bold Act of Empathy and Support
"Bald for a Cause embodies the spirit of empathy and solidarity that defines our community. Seeing so many students take this brave step is inspiring—it showcases the strength of our student body and their willingness to take action for a cause that deeply matters."
Shaving one’s head is not just a physical transformation; it’s a powerful symbol of support for those facing the challenges of cancer. Our students took this bold step to stand with those who have lost their hair due to medical treatments, offering their hair for wig donations and financial contributions to support cancer awareness and early detection efforts.
More Than Just a Haircut
Beyond raising awareness, the event strengthens the bonds within our community and reinforces the idea that small acts, when done together, can create a significant impact. Lic. Deyanira Zúñiga Hernández, President and Founder of Asociación Metamorfosis, highlighted the importance of student-led initiatives like this: “This event aligns perfectly with our mission of promoting early cancer detection and prevention among young people. It is inspiring to see students taking the initiative to drive awareness and contribute to such an important cause.”
The donated hair will be used to create natural hair wigs for cancer patients in need, providing them with comfort and confidence as they navigate their journey. This initiative also helps students cultivate a deeper understanding of social impact, encouraging them to actively make the world a better place.
A Collective Effort for a Greater Cause
"Bald for a Cause" 2025 was a resounding success, showcasing the unwavering commitment of UWC Costa Rica students to standing up for what they believe in. Their courage and compassion testify to the power of youth-led initiatives in driving meaningful change.
At UWC Costa Rica, we strive to nurture young leaders who not only dream of a better world but take action to build it. Through initiatives like this, our students continue to inspire, lead, and make an impact—learning from nature and from each other for a lifetime.
