Understanding National Committees
National Committees are at the heart of the UWC movement, operating in various countries and regions worldwide. They play a crucial role in selecting and supporting students to attend UWC colleges.
Each National Committee has its specific application process, deadlines, and requirements, so it is very important to stay updated on your corresponding NC. The biggest difference with applications via GSP is that it is common for prospective students to apply for scholarships.
Costa Rica has the particular occurrence of having both a UWC College (UWC Costa Rica) and a National Committee (Comité Nacional UWC Costa Rica). It can be confusing for potential Costa Rican students to differentiate both at first glance, so now you know we are different things!
Tips for a Successful Application via NCs
- Highlight Your Unique Qualities: In your personal statement or essay, showcase your unique experiences, passions, and contributions to your community.
- Seek Guidance: Don't hesitate to reach out to your national committee or current UWC Costa Rica students for advice and support.
- Be Patient and Persistent: The application process can be competitive, so be patient and persistent. If you don't get selected initially, consider reapplying in the future.
- Research based on YOUR National Committee. This is very important, as the application windows tend to be smaller than applications via GSP.
