We are excited to share a preview on how our new campus in San Isidro de Heredia is going to look like!
UWC Costa Rica is taking a monumental step forward in its mission to "cultivate in young people the passion and ability to serve humanity and our planet–learning from nature and from each other for a lifetime." Kickstarted by an extraordinary donation from the van Otterloo family and fueled by our We Are United campaign, our dream of expanding our impact through a new campus is becoming a reality!
A Glimpse into the Future
We are excited to share a sneak peek of the new campus. Imagine state-of-the-art facilities seamlessly integrated with Costa Rica's natural beauty. Picture students learning in classrooms that open up to the rainforest, collaborating on projects in innovative labs, and exploring the diverse ecosystems surrounding them.
A Vision Rooted in Sustainability and Growth
Guided by our Strategic Plan and Sustainability Framework, we have meticulously planned this expansion for the past few years. Our vision for the new campus is ambitious and deeply aligned with our core values. We envision a space where students from all corners of the globe can come together to learn, grow, and become agents of change. This new campus will allow us to:
Expand our community: Welcome more local and international students to experience the transformative power of the UWC movement.
Deepen our commitment to sustainability: Create a campus that is a model of environmental responsibility, featuring innovative design and technology.
Increase accessibility: Provide a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all students, increasing the amount of scholarships available.
Establish a Sustainability and Innovation Center: This will offer a hub for educational experiences for students, educators, and local and international communities.
Sustainability at the Forefront
Our commitment to sustainability is woven into every aspect of the new campus design. We are pursuing ambitious goals, including:
Simultaneous LEED and RESET certifications: Achieving the highest standards of green building and healthy indoor environments.
Sustainable building materials: Utilizing sustainably sourced wood as the primary construction material.
Sustainable design: From the shape of the buildings to the paths of our walking trails, every decision around our new campus has prioritized sustainability and our sustainability principles.
Reforestation projects: Planting native trees across the property to restore and enhance biodiversity.
A Transformative Opportunity
This new campus is an investment in the future of our planet and the next generation of changemakers. We believe that by providing a truly sustainable and inspiring learning environment, we can empower our students to make a positive impact on the world.
