New Campus Updates | January, 2025

Written by: UWC Costa Rica
We are thrilled to share that we have completed 100% of the land movement required to construct UWC Costa Rica's new campus in San Isidro! This marks a significant milestone in the project, bringing us closer to realizing our vision.

A New Year with Significant Advancements

At UWC Costa Rica, we believe in cultivating in young people the passion and ability to serve humanity and our planet—learning from nature and from each other for a lifetime. This mission drives every step of our campus development, ensuring that sustainability, community, and educational excellence remain at the core of our efforts.

We are currently in the bidding process to select the construction company responsible for the buildings. The contract is expected to be awarded in April, paving the way for construction to begin in May and stay on track for completion in 2026.

Strengthening Partnerships and Exploring Innovation

At the end of 2024, we visited Chile to gain insight into the scope and operations of the company manufacturing the timber that will be used in our campus structures. Sustainability and innovation are at the core of our project, and this visit was instrumental in ensuring that our materials meet the highest environmental and structural standards.

UWC Costa Rica has also been actively engaged in the local community, working alongside the Municipality of San Isidro, the Development Association, and local residents. Through various community events, we continue to foster a strong relationship between our students and the people of San Isidro, encouraging mutual growth and integration. Our ongoing communication with local leaders ensures transparency and collaboration, reinforcing a positive and inclusive approach to campus development.

Site Visits and Student Involvement

Visits to the construction site have been an exciting part of the journey, allowing different stakeholders to witness the progress firsthand. In November, both the Student Council and UWC Costa Rica's Board of Trustees explored the site, gaining a deeper understanding of the project's development.

In January 2025, work on the stormwater drainage system began under the supervision of the relevant authorities. UWC Costa Rica staff teams have also resumed site visits to facilitate a smooth transition and cultivate a positive atmosphere leading up to the relocation. Additionally, we have invited alums to visit and connect with the project, further strengthening our community ties.

Finally, the study of mobility within and outside the campus has resumed, ensuring efficient and sustainable transportation options for students and staff. With each step forward, we are building a campus and a vibrant and inclusive space where education and community thrive.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this exciting journey!
