Walking Trails at UWC Costa Rica New Campus
As we prepare and advance the construction of our new campus, we're also opening our doors to the wider community to share the beauty of our surroundings.
Nestled near the breathtaking Braulio Carrillo National Park, our campus offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature and experience the wonders of Costa Rica's biodiversity.
Sustainable Trails
At UWC Costa Rica, sustainability is woven into every aspect of our mission, operations, and educational experiences. Here's how we have embedded our sustainability principles in the development of our trails:
- Repurposed Resources: We've minimized waste by creating trail surfaces using wood chips generated during the campus construction. We've also avoided using concrete and kept the surface materials in a way that reduces footstep noises, keeping the immersion with nature intact.
- Recycled and Up-cycled Materials: We've incorporated recycled materials into the construction of flooring, stairs, and other trail structures wherever possible.
- Minimal Impact Design: The trails have been thoughtfully designed to minimize our footprint on the natural environment. We've carefully considered the topography, existing vegetation, and water flow to ensure the trails blend seamlessly with the landscape.
Experiences for Everyone
Our trails will cater to all fitness levels and abilities. Whether you're an experienced hiker or prefer a stroll, you'll find a path that suits you. Explore the lush rainforest, breathe in the fresh air, and discover the incredible flora and fauna that call this place home. These trails are more than just a recreational space. They embody UWC Costa Rica's mission to cultivate in young people the passion and ability to serve humanity and our planet – learning from nature and from each other for a lifetime. They provide a living laboratory where students and visitors can engage in experiential learning, fostering a deeper understanding of sustainability and environmental stewardship.

In line with our Strategic Plan and Sustainability Framework, these trails are designed to foster a sense of community and connection. We will invite our San Isidro neighbors, friends, and partners in Costa Rica and around the globe to explore this incredible resource with us.
