Creating a Safe and Sustainable Campus for UWC Costa Rica

Written by: UWC Costa Rica
At UWC Costa Rica, ensuring a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors is a top priority. As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance security, we recently welcomed G4S, a global leader in security solutions, for a visit that marked an important step in developing an updated and comprehensive security program for our community.

A Vision for a Secure Future: Collaboration with G4S

During their visit, G4S discussed security challenges and opportunities with our team, both on our current campus in Santa Ana and at our future site in San Isidro. A key focus was strategies to prevent theft, vandalism, and the introduction of prohibited substances. The collaboration emphasized proactive prevention and the responsible management of incidents.

Balancing Security with Environmental Sustainability

Security at UWC Costa Rica goes beyond protecting individuals. We also aim to safeguard the natural environment that defines our campus. G4S proposed integrating advanced security technologies while respecting the unique biodiversity of our community. Their suggestions include sustainable practices that help us maintain our environmental integrity as we grow.

Fostering Safe and Harmonious Interactions

Another essential aspect of the visit was addressing how to manage interactions between students, staff, and visitors. We can foster a harmonious atmosphere and reduce potential risks by ensuring these interactions are safe. Special attention was given to securing vulnerable areas of the campus, particularly during quieter hours when fewer people are present.

Prioritizing Student Safety and Wellbeing

The well-being of our students is at the heart of our security strategy. Our educators highlighted the importance of protocols focused on child protection and the appropriate response to incidents related to alcohol consumption. The collaboration with G4S will help strengthen our internal policies, aligning them with the values that UWC Costa Rica stands for.

A Community Effort: A Thank You to Our Teams

We want to express our gratitude to the Co-curricular, Residential Life, Student Well-Being, and volunteer faculty teams for their contributions in identifying security needs and proposing solutions. This collaborative spirit reflects our community's unwavering commitment to excellence and safety.

Building a Safer, More Inclusive Future

This consultation with G4S marks the beginning of a continuous effort to create a safer, more inclusive, and sustainable campus. Ongoing training and implementing new procedures will be essential as we work toward an environment where students, educators, and visitors can thrive, collaborate, and confidently grow. UWC Costa Rica reaffirms its commitment to security, excellence, and sustainability as we build on our legacy.

Join Us in Creating a Safer Campus for All

Stay tuned for further updates as we develop a campus that supports our shared values of security, sustainability, and a thriving educational community. Together, we are shaping a future where everyone at UWC Costa Rica can feel safe and inspired.
