The transition from high school to higher education marks a pivotal milestone for global changemakers. At UWC Costa Rica, this transition is defined by a rigorous commitment to academic distinction and holistic development. The alums of the Class of 2026 have officially begun entering their university journeys worldwide, carrying with them a world-respected academic foundation designed to address complex global challenges.
Academic Excellence and the IB Framework
Academic excellence at UWC Costa Rica is anchored by the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), a demanding curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, independent research, and global awareness. By combining traditional intellectual disciplines with real-world socio-political and environmental issues, the academic program challenges students to analyze global dynamics from multiple perspectives. This rigorous framework ensures that graduates gain a significant advantage in university admissions worldwide, equipping them with the analytical tools needed to succeed in highly competitive higher-education environments.
Celebrating Outstanding IB Results
The Class of 2026 has set a brilliant standard for academic excellence. The cohort achieved a strong 90% pass rate in the IBDP.
The breakdown of these results highlights the dedication of the students and the academic staff:
- 89 students earned the full International Baccalaureate Diploma, with a 90% pass rate for the graduating class.
- 34 students obtained a bilingual diploma, a distinct opportunity available only for UWC Costa Rica students across the movement.
- 10 students achieved an elite score of 40 points or higher.
- One student earned a perfect score of 45 points!
This success is a testament to the rigorous preparation, individual counseling, and robust learning environment cultivated at UWC Costa Rica. These results ensure the alums are well-prepared to transition to their higher education journeys at diverse universities worldwide.

Global University Matriculation and Major Pathways
The academic rigor of the IBDP has enabled the Class of 2026 to transition directly into 52 diverse universities across 12 countries. While 77 graduates have chosen to begin their university lectures immediately, 18 individuals are embarking on purposeful Gap Year Experiences to expand their impact before entering higher education.
Graduates have selected cutting-edge academic pathways that align with the UWC mission of sustainability and progress, including Biomedical Engineering, Architectural and Environmental Studies, Global Creative Industries, and Movie, Media, and Theatre Studies.
