From February 29 to March 2, 2024, UWC Costa Rica delegates joined hundreds of UWC community members and leaders worldwide in Phuket, Thailand, for the UWC International Congress 2024. This pivotal event, held every six years, marked the culmination of the UWC movement’s 60th-anniversary celebrations and brought together over 400 participants from diverse backgrounds to discuss and shape the future of global education.

Under the theme “Education as a Force,” the Congress featured dynamic discussions, collaborative sessions, and inspiring keynote presentations to realign the UWC mission to address today’s pressing needs. Thanks to a hybrid format, the Congress expanded its global reach, welcoming in-person and virtual attendees from UWC schools and colleges.

UWC Costa Rica: Representing Our Community and Values on a Global Stage

UWC Costa Rica proudly participated in both the in-person and online formats, with a delegation comprising students, teachers, and staff who contributed their insights on educational innovation, diversity, and sustainability. Our delegates shared best practices and engaged with leaders across the UWC movement, adding to the rich tapestry of ideas and initiatives designed to strengthen UWC’s mission to foster global citizens who act as agents of change.

Five Thematic Tracks: Pioneering the Future of Education

  • Wellbeing: With growing emphasis on mental health, discussions centered on creating supportive school environments that nurture students and staff.
  • Financial Sustainability: Leaders explored strategies to sustain needs-based scholarships, including innovative fundraising and long-term financial planning.
  • Educational Leadership and Partnerships: UWC’s collaborative approach was highlighted, focusing on partnerships that expand educational access and impact through initiatives like Amala.
